Bury & Walkers are delighted to announce that one of their colleagues, Ellie Wilson,

has recently passed her SFE (Solicitors for the Elderly) exam and will therefore be enrolled as an Associate Member of SFE. Ellie is a new member of our private client team specialising in Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Probate applications and estate administration. This week is Solicitors for the Elderly’s “Update Your Will Week”. We would therefore like take this opportunity to encourage you and your families to think about making a Will or consider whether your current Will should be updated. It is generally advisable to review your Will every three to five years or when your circumstances change, for example, getting married or divorced, having children, buying a house or receiving inheritance. Please remember that the importance of making a Will doesn’t just apply to the elderly. Ensuring that your Will is up to date can make dealing with your estate easier for your loved ones, prevent disputes and give you peace of mind.

Making a Will is one of the most important steps you will ever take. It shows responsibility and care for yourloved ones. Without a Will, your family will be subject to the law dictating to whom your assets pass and who will deal with your estate. There will be no special gifts, which may be very important to you, and no involvement of friends which may also be significant. Furthermore, you may need to consider special family circumstances such as young children and the possible impact of inheritance tax. Don’t forget that if you die “intestate” (without a Will), your estate may not all pass to your spouse. There’s quite a lot to think about.

If you would like to book an appointment to make a Will, or wish to discuss your options in more detail, please call Ellie on 01226 705 623 or call reception on 01226 733 533 and ask for our private client team.
