Introduction

Bury & Walkers has for some time provided a wide range of legal services to local authorities including planning, property, prosecution and childcare work but recently we have developed a new area of expertise, working with authorities to transfer existing or establish new leisure facilities using the medium of a charitable trust. Our work in this field is growing and has been described as "excellent".

Experience

Our experience includes:

  • Acting for a charitable trust in the transfer of a large leisure operation including ten leisure centres.
  • Acting in the establishment of a new leisure facility, which is one of the largest indoor arenas in the country and for use in the Commonwealth Games.
  • Advice about a heritage project to be set up in a similar way by a local authority.
  • Involved in establishing a further new community leisure centre and being consulted about similar proposed leisure and heritage projects.
  • Two partners in the firm are directors of a charitable leisure trust and have the day to day experience of running such organisations in practice.

Range of Advice

The work involves specialist application of many areas of law including corporate and business law, funding and management issues, charitable trusts, employment and pensions and taxation, property and rating.

The firm has a team of four partners and several other support staff who are involved in this type of work.
